THE SURGICAL TREATMENT OF SEVERE IDIOPATHIC SCOLIOSIS BY CDI

33 cases of severe idiopathic scoliosis (över 80 degrees) have been treated by CD Instrumentation in our clinic during the period betvveen April 1990 andJune 1993. 13 patients were male, 20 were female. Age variedfrom 9 to 17years with an average of 13.8years. Followup varied from 7 months to 39 months with a mean of 23 months.

Combined anterior and posterior surgery performed in ali cases. İn 26 cases anterior and posterior procedures vjere performed in different sessions, in 7 cases were in one session. Among patients operated in two sessions, 14 received halo-femoral traction in betvveen the two operations.

The average frontal Cobb angle of the curve was 98.4° (80° to 120°). Mean postoperative Cobb measurement was 51.7° (22° to 88°). The mean postoperative correction rate was -47.4 (%25 to %76). Mean preoperative frontal balance deviation of 2.2 cm improved to 0.6 cm postoperatively.
