Posterior cervical instrumentation can be performed using lateral mass piating. Recently, pedicle screvvs have been used to avoid complications regarding pull-out. This study vvas planned to compare the pulI-out strength of lateral mass screvvs and pedicle screvvs. Eight lateral mass screvvs and 11 pedicle screvvs vvere used. A mechanical device vvas used and a pull-out force applied at a loading rate of 6 mm/min. A mean of 88.25±12.52 and 348.64+38.58 Nevvton force vvere applied to lateral mass screvvs and pedicle screvvs, respectively. The results of this study supported the idea that pedicle screvvs provide a better screvv pull-out resistance. İt is concluded that pedicle screvvs have better pull-out resistance.
