Among different types of complications occurring in long-standing ankylosing spondyIitiş, pseudoarthrosis (spondylodiscitis) is the most serious one. A fifty-five year old man, suffering from ankylosing spondylitis since 18 years old, has demonstrated a spondylodiscitis (pseudoarthrosis) on the thoracolumbar junction and neurologic changes, perceived during the operation performed for the treatment of this complication. He has been evaluated by plain radiograms and MRI. We planned and fulfilled decompression of the neural cord and posterior stabilization, hovvever confronted with paraplegia that we believed the neurologic changes have developed during turning of the patient from supine to prone position on the table at the beginning of the operation.
